How effective are the low profile type hood deflectors for windshield protection of rock chips? Also, about how much is the cost for the more reasonable ones? And, finally, I know that on the '04s and newer F-150's the grill bar has to be separated for installation of these deflectors...is this much of a hassle? Thanks
How low profile do you mean? Lund made one that taped down to the hood, I think it was mostly pointless and shortly discontinued. The normal interceptor height (which is comparable to EGR's Areovisor, and deflecti's shield) has just enough room to put your hand under it to scoop out leaves. I don't believe any have the aerodynamic properties to deflect much, it they can't move 1gram bugs how will they 10 gram rocks?
Releasing the grille is cake, just a little more time consuming than not. I haven't done a Ford in a while, but it's the same idea as a dodge. Unbolt the four or so that hold the grille to the hood, if your good, you don't have to completely remove them. Slide it in between and tighten it all back up.
