2 separate animals....one reads PCM...the others writes to PCM/TCM. Scantool : Innova 3100 series (approx $60), source Ebay.
Tuner /Programmer: SCT SF3 or X3....with tunes (approx $400), source many of the sponsors on this site...(approx $200), source...the guy down the street or Craigslist (Risky ....you're taking your chances).
any thought on this what would you guys recommend a scanner or a tuner for an at home DIYER
thanks wayne
If you are a hardcore DIY'er then I would splurge for Autoenginuity's ScanTool. It's perhaps the best bang for your buck. A tuner really won't help you much with DIY type stuff and most tuners can't pull all the codes that this ScanTool can with the Ford Enhancement License. You can get it directly from AE or you can shop around at some of the vendors, they have it cheaper for both the tool itself and the license to go with it. ITP I think is the cheapest source(if I remember correctly off the top of my head).
CarDAQ might be something else that you can get and if I remember correctly it has programming capabilities. You can get that thru DrewTech. I think that's about 1600 or somewhere, but it would definitely be the ultimate that you can have.

My Brother, who is a Mechanic in the midwest uses EASE Diagnostics...he said it was pretty good stuff.
