We're rebuilding the rear brakes on my 72 F250, and when you take out the hub it's got like this 2 something inch hex head and it's got rounded edges. The book we have recommends a "special socket". Where would I get this? Is there another tool I could use to do this? We don't really have anything big enough to grip it.
This full float dana 60 rear axle will require a 2 9/16" sockect to remove the locknut and bearing retaining nut.
These can be purchased at napa I believe this is KDS 2436. My notes are not clear on wheather or not this is the socket or the actual nut. I recall another part number
775-9025, but I believe that this is a socket for the front dana 60.
I use Snap On tools, so these numbers are only from memory and or limited notes.
I believe that the KDS number is close enough to get you where you need to go. Otherwise these are 2 9/16" nuts that require a rounded socket.
A good / decent parts guy will know what you need.
Much luck.
