Teeth Jarring Shudder
BTDT.......around 1979 on my first uni. The truck would about jump off the ground when letting the clutch out.
The body is moving while the clutch is being disengaged. A very common issue with short bed unis if the cab mounts are shot and the torque box is compromised. It is not so common on the long beds as thers is a lot more sheet metal bolted the frame in the rear bed.
Essentially this allows he clutch to partially regrab grab the flywheel causing shudder as the disc compresses and uncompressed with the unequal release of pressure on the borg and beck or diaphragm arms.

One of my pet peeves on discussion boards is when somebody doesn't post the solution they found for the problem they posted about. I broke my own rule. So, I wanted to post about what I did to solve this problem.
The clutch is functioning properly now. I removed the flywheel from the crankshaft and really cleaned the mating surface between the two. I also bought another new clutch disc. The new disc that I got from Dennis Carpenter had an oily almost tarry like substance on it. I returned that one to them (btw, Dennis Carpenter's company has been great to work with) and bought a rebuilt unit from Advanced Auto Parts. I'm actually not sure what the problem was. The only thing I can think of is that either the flywheel had a very small piece of trash between it and the crankshaft which was keeping it from sitting properly or the substance on the disc was causing the problem. Either way, the clutch is as smooth as glass now.
Hope this helps,
