With that filter setup, you won't gain anything over the stock filter housing with the intake tube pulled off the intake.
Hot air from inside the engine bay is not going to help any.
I ran that intake I posted above hooked to the stock air cleaner housing before I had a turbo/turbo air cleaner housing, just eliminated the plastic tube down to the small original intake opening.
This picture was after the turbo install, but notice the stock black plastic air tube connecting the air cleaner box to the intake elbow.
I have been pondering the intake question also ... My idea is to make a few adapter rings so that I can stack 3 air filters on top of each other and have this stick thru a hole in the hood ... Maybe cover the hole with a scoop ...
I wish I saved the rods out of the last Detroit I had apart. It inhaled water and end result were 2 severely bent rods and 2 blown out lower cylinder walls. Good thing it's wet sleeved. 2 piston sets and liners and it's still running.
