Hi all, I was thinking of swapping out my exhaust manifold for headers. I found a broken stud the other day, so I figure if I'm going thru the hassle...Does anyone have advice? I seen these "FORD RACING 2005-06 F-250 6.8 V-10 HEADERS 9430-SD683" on eBay, anyone install them? I have a 04 F-350 4x4. On some of the other post I read, I seen people having issues with frame or crossmember clearance using the $200 ebay specials. Also, I live in south east Michigan, and it is getting a bit cold...any recomendations on a shop that will install, resonablly? Happy Holidays to you all, be safe...Chopper P.S. sorry if this subject has been posted before, I'm not sure how to search everthing.
Spend the extra money and get a set of long tube headers that replace the Y-pipe also. Doug Thorley, Banks and Hedmann headers replace the stock y-pipe. the stock ypipe necks down to 1.5" and hurts performance. I have the Thorleys on my 04' and really like them. The Banks headers are stainless so they will stand up to harsh winter enviroments better than the Thorleys because the Thorleys are steel. The hedmanns are also steel but I have no experience with them.
I have the Banks headers and I think they are great. Absolutely perfect fitment. I cannot comment on any other brands. It is not that hard of a job to do yourself. When I installed mine I called a Banks shop to get a price on installation. They quoted me $1100......so I did them myself. It takes a good part of a day just to do the headers.....you have broken studs that will have to be removed to it could get tricky and time consuming. I installed mine when the trcuk was only 2 years old so I removed all my old studs without issue.
Ditto on going with the name brand. I put headers on my 99 the first year the V10 came out. Unfortunately there was only one company at the time that made them, I won't say the name because the quality wasn't the best.
I say go with Thorley headers and y-pipe. It does help the engine respond quicker and, for mine anyway, gives more power to pull w/out tranny shifting down.
