I'm really wondering if I should yank my 300 I6 and drop a 351W in it's place. Bolt right up to my 3 spd, be a lot quicker and sound better too. Unfortunately the 6 runs good and I hate yanking a perfectly good running (but slow) engine. Have to decide soon as i need to finish the truck-wife may not let me use the Taurus too much longer.
At any rate I have a set of mustang shorty headers (out of an 85 5.0) for the engine. I think they should fir fine in the engine bay of my 78. Am I wrong?
yes, you are wrong, they will bolt on but the ports on the heads are bigger than the runners for the headers, they might seal but would be very restrictive. (restrictives bad) get yourself some sanderson headers or dynomax units, i have a 71 with a 302 and im building a 351w for it and i have the 351 exhaust on it already and what a difference. hope this helped you. mocky
71 F-100, short-bed, 302, soon to be 351w, 3spd.,
(on the floor) what a ride!!!
undersood about the ports so I wont go with the shorties. Just out of curiosity though, would they have fit under the hood w/out hitting anything ie frame steering column etc. I bet my buddy 10 bucks that wouldn't have interfered with anything.
you would be $10 richer, i dont think they would be in the way of anything...if you were putting in a 302 id say go for it. the only problem with puttin them on the 351 is the flow restriction. you could try to find the factory lightning headers (ohh mama) that would be perfect. 351 shortys... if you do get $10, i get half..(just kidding...mocky
