4x4 won't engage

so i have a 2002 f-350 4x4 with esof. when i turn the switch nothing happens no noises and no light. I checked all fuses and relays everything is fine. if i pull the high to low relay and run a jumper wire from the battery to the pin closest to the passenger side it will engage and i have 4x4 low and i pull the low to high relay and do the same thing it will disengage. So I'm pretty sure my shift motor is working and all connections are fine. I also pulled my switch and ohms test it in each position and all results are within parameters. I have been doing pin point tests through my ford service manual and I am leaning towards my 4x4 control module but the only thing that is throwing my off is when i turn the key on my 4x4 and 4x4 low lights prove out. Is anyone familiar with this??

Try turning on your heat. Engage the 4wd and after about 30 seconds does it start blowing out of the defroster instead of the heater? If so, you've got a vacuum leak. I've had to replace the hoses and nipples to the hubs and had to replace the seals inside the hub. It works great now.

I have repleced the cheezy hoses as well.Changed yellow orings but what most do not have trouble with I had to change was the vac.solonoid.The solonoid was bad on mine. All works when I need it to now.

If it was a vacuum problem the 4x4 lights would come on and you could manually lock the hubs in, so you can rule all that out. If you can make the shift motor shift by jumping the relays I'd also agree your shift motor is good. You've tested your switch so that's good. Now you are gonna wanna check that you have power to your control module, the pinpoint tests can be a real PITA, if you have a good idea of how things are supposed to work, then get the wiring diagram for the contol module, on it you will find that there are about 3 or 4 wires that give this module power at different times/all the time, there is also 1 or 2 grounds. So find you power wires, take a test light or your volt meter, use a paper clip to back probe the connector and on each power wire have the KOEO (Key on engine off) and turn your switch to 2wd/4wd and 4 Low making sure you have power at each on off these wires no matter the position of the switch. Then check your grounds. If all is well there, start checking your outputs of the contol module (this will most likely be where you find the issue), it's more crucial to turn the 4wd switch on this part of the test then the first part. So in your wiring diagram you'll look for outputs that say 4wd low, high, plate A, B, etc and such things and just test those wires for voltage as you turn the switch, it isn't important how it works right now, you just need to have voltage at some switch position at these wires/connector coming out of the contol module.

I appreciate the help. I can't remember for sure because I'm on vacation in Florida and my truck is in Maine but the module is behind the glove box somewhere correct?

Yes, that's where it is. I'm having the same problem with mine right now. I was getting a P1865 and P1876, followed the steps for the 1865 and things tested out OK down to checking the position plates, which I haven't done yet. I then started looking at the 1876 and found that my ESOF Solenoid wasn't ohming out correctly. Got a new one and replaced it and my 1865 and 1876 have cleared but I've got a bunch of other codes now that I'm fairly sure came from the troubleshooting. I'm going to try clearing those tomorrow and see if I can get it going again.

Is it just a matter of getting the linkages, brackets, and the shifter?? Or is it a different transfer case??

Someone posted on this forum their DIY conversion so it can be done. Hopefully he will chime in.
