just got our title on the 55 from the state. so i guess everything is official! i ordered tail lites for a stocking stuffer for my son from mid 50. hope they make it in time.
Kinda nice to have all the paperwork done.
I found my 49 still on a rollback (flatbed wrecker) at a junkyard. Guy wanted 200 for it. No keys or title.
According to him I could register it with a bill of sale cause it was so old. DMV wouldn't let me do it. Lucky for me I had a friend who's mom worked at another DMV so she got it done for me.
Still working on the key's part though.
I hope your lights make it in time for your son. Sounds like you will have lot's of good memories with it. Good luck.

Getting keys would be easier than a title, in many instances. You simply call a locksmith, and they make a set for you.
Let me know if you have a friend that can pull strings in Washington state.
we bought our pickup at an estate auction, so we did have a few hoops to jump thru. the certified original letter of testimentory was a little difficult to come up with for the tag office. someone from the estate has to get it. you can't get one directly due to the privacy act. then what really chaps your butt is when you hand them that copy and they make a photocopy and then hand it back to you. all the time wasted so they can make their "own" photocopy. oh well, it's done and we have our title in hand. i put an antique tag on it. they are good for 3 years here in texas. i have been running around it even thought it is supposed to be a special occasion use vehicle.
Don't really know anyone in Washington.
The only reason I haven't worked on keys for mine yet, is cause I haven't really done much.
Mine has the I beileve factory flathead 6 but it was previously sleeved, #6 cly sleeve dropped, think that's why it seized. Due to neighbors, city ordanaces, ect... I haven't been able to do much to it. But I should have property within a year.
It sat for 29 years before I got it. Atleast according to the sticker on the plate, still on the truck too. So what's a few more. Just getting real ichy to do something to it.
