Well on our way to MT for Christmas and couple miles outside of Well...No more power. I ran AE scan IDM code. I ran the buzz test #3 is silent.
Anyone have any contacts near by (Elko).
Still here in Wells. Pretty sure it is the #3 injector.
Can not limp it anywhere.
I an getting No Buzz in the #3 injector.
I was able to move the #1 injector wire to the #3 and run the test again. Still no buzz.
I wanted to move #3 wire to another injector, but it won't reach. I could flip over so #3 would line up with #5, but I am concerned about the main harness being able to spin 180*.
Will call around see if I can find an AD injector. A long truck shop says it can have one on Tuesday. Going to call Ford in Elko and see if they have one in stock. Then trying to get it here. I hate to have it towed to Ford.
Anyone else have any ideas what else it could be ?
You can sometimes find them on the internet. Did it shut down the entire bank or just the one injector? I've seen a bad solenoid shut down the whole bank before.
Have you tried just ohming the wires to see what reading the soleniod is giving you? Have you checked the rotational velocity numbers with the engine running to confirm only #3 is having the issue?
Seems to be only the #3 injector.
I can not keep the truck running long enough to to any "running tests"
Unfortunately I only have basic tools in my trailer. No OHM meter.
I have checked the wiring numerous times today. (thinking it was UVCH) which are new.
How rough is it running? One bad injector will give you a miss, one dead bank will make the engine shake like it wants to come out from under the hood. Try unplugging #3 injector, clearing the codes, then start it back up to see what difference that makes.
Your comment about not being able to keep the truck running concerns me. Can you tell us more about that? One of our trucks at work had a bad soleniod that shut down the entire left bank. They drove it 25 miles back to the shop to let someone look at it. It ran awful on only 4 cylinders, but it would limp along around 30 mph and never stalled once.
my guess is that it is shutting down the whole bank after starting. once the short is detected the pcm shuts down all 4, not just the one with the short. I had the exact same thing happen to me. try unplugging just that one injector and see what it does, if it continues to shut down the entire bank and stalls out with it unplugged then chances are that the wire is chaffed/grounded/shorted somewhere else before it gets to that point. mine ended up being a chaffed wire on the main harness plug that was rubbing on the valve cover causing all 4 inj to shut down on the passenger side.
No go on the start. Batteries are low and cold. Put my small charger on the one closest to the starter. Will try again in the AM. Might try a jump from the trailer battery.
