So I've got a couple old license plates lying around, and want to put them to a cool use. Namely, as a headliner and hood liner type thing for my F100. Problem is, I'm stumped as how to attach them without drilling into the panels and possibly damaging the outer skins. Anyone know of a good (cheap) method to hold/glue them onto the ceiling and inside of the hood, without one falling off every other bump? Thanks!
From the description for that stuff, it sounds like you need at least one porous surface. Doesn't sound like it would work too good for a metal to metal bond.
Metal is porous, just not all that porous haha.
I've worked with the stuff also, very strong.
As for the roof, it's a bi-layered roof, so drilling into it is not going to make it poke through the other end. you could do that and pop rivet them into place.
Considering how dented my inner roof is, I'm not so sure that I trust myself to not poke through too far. I'll have to see. I have used the panel adhesive before, but it's costly, and requires clamping overnight.

Not sure about the hood though.
i think most of our trucks are porous ,with the rust and all.LOL
I would spend the four dollars on a tube of loctite and give it a try. There is no clamping involved. If you are hesitant, spend the extra dollar and use the commercial grade loctite.
Make sure it is where you want it cause when it is dry it is not going anywhere.
You are correct about the smooth surface thing. I have found that it does not bond to smooth tile unless it is roughed up. As I said before, rough up the metal. Josh is correct also about metal being porous.
I ended up just using pop rivets, with some powergrab to prevent possible vibration noises. The Loctite by itself wasn't enough. I did the front lip (where you would have the windshield to headliner trim) and the raised center strip. Also took out my beat-up kick panels and did some creative license plate bending and screwed them on.
