Pulling Power

I have a 1995 7.3l F250 with a 5 speed standard transmission. I bought it to pull my travel trailer which is 6,600 lbs and a bumper pull. When pulling it on a flat road I have to get it up to at least 55 or 60 in 4th gear to put it in 5th, but once I get it in 5th it will not gain speed but it will stay at the current speed. I'm pretty sure a 7.3l should not have a problem gaining speed with only 6600 lbs behind it. Could this be a sign that the turbo is not working, or something else? Any suggestions? Thank you.

What do you have for gears? Any mods? Stock intake/exhaust?

you might have a dusted turbo and or a weak high pressure oil pump, that thing should have no problem yanking that trailer way past 60

Everything on the truck is stock, there are no mods at all on it. I'm sure what the gearing ratio on it is. I know without pulling the trailer, in 5th at 70mph i'm running between 2k and 2.5k on the tack. So I'm assuming it has a pretty low gear.

Probably 3.55's You should be able to pull away on a flat with the trailer. You will notice a big difference if you get rid of the stock intake and do a 6637, ditch the pancake down pipe, cat and muffler.. lol How big is the trailer? Could be alot of wind drag too

I'll give that a try, I dont think its wind drag. I have an 06 5.9l Cummins and it pulls it at 80 without any effort. I assumed this truck would do the same. In my dodge I can hear the turbo winding up but I cant in the ford thats why I was kind of assuming the turbo isnt working.

Check your MAP sensor hose for overall condition (cracks or pin holes) or possible obstructions inside it. Easy to take off and check. Also you can unplug the MAP electrical connector and take it for a spin. Truck will CEL but will go away once reconnected. If it runs much better then either the hose itself is clogged up or MAP sensor could be bad.

No offense but the 95 is 210 hp? The 06 cummins 300?? Just a bit of difference

You'll definately hear the turbo better with athe 6637 and open exhaust.

Before you go starting to do mods, find the problem and fix it. Something is very wrong with it. My truck is the same year as yours but is a 4x4 crew cab and I have a very big slide in camper in the back and a horse trailer putting me about 28,000 pounds total and it never has a problem pulling it. I have 4.10 gears and it looks like you do too.
We would need more info to diagnose yours. I would start by checking to make sure all your intake boots are on. They blow off sometimes if they get oily.
Then pull the big rubber one off your turbo inlet and look at he condition of the compressor wheel. You could also see if it turns ok. Your air filter could just be completely plugged up. I would do the 6637 air filter if you have the time. Factory ones suck. Real bad.

could be any number of things. air filter and fuel filter would be the things to check first.

Fuel pump could do it too. When mine went, the truck would pull itself and no more. There's a schrader valve on the fuel pressure regulator on the side of the fuel filter canister. Get a tire pressure gauge and check it while the trucks running. Stock, you 'should' get 45psi. Mine was 25psi when I first bought the truck and got worse from there. If it's lower than 35 psi, get a new pump. They're cheaper through international.

Did you drive it with the gas instead of diesel? That would suck.
