bearhugger, been there, done that. I was filling my diesel Jetta and a guy I was talking to finally asked me if I had a diesel. It was full at that point.

To me the nozzles are backwards. If you put diesel in a gas engine, i dont think it will do anything, but if you put gas in a diesel it would probably ruin the injectors. Or at least do damage to them.

I don't know, when I put gas in my dad's nissan diesel back in the day, I made it a whole mile before it died..... Got it towed, drained the tank, refilled and set off again for yet another 14 hours of driving that day. Still ran well for 12 years after that too. Maybe it did hurt something....

Those days of the old diesels are gone. Back when you could start them with ether and add gasoline to the fuel to make them start better in the winter. Cant do that any more. My buddy is a claims adjuster for an insurance company and they had to replace a whole diesel engine in a brand new car just because they ran off-road diesel. Cost over 10k to do it all. I believe it was the VW suv thing with a tdi. Don't quote me on that though.

To tell you the truth, I doubt the Off-road diesel did much of anything, but they still had to do it.

Wow!!! That's nasty. I agree, don't think the dyed/marked diesel had anything to do with it, but still.....

70 at 2000 rpm should be 3.55 gears
70 at 2500 rpm would be 4.10 gears
mine has 4.10 5 speed, Friday I moved a 20' ocean container on my gooseneck about 9,000 pounds 13' high so plenty of wind resistance and 5000' elevation, never had a problem running 65 mph, I have also moved these containers on the backhoe trailer which is 3,000 lbs heavier and a foot higher and pulled them up an 8 mile 7% grade at 50 mph.
so having said that these trucks have some power when everything is right

Apparently off-road diesel was not low sulfur diesel for a while. I believe it is all low sulfur now.

Back when I worked at Caterpillar and was working as an OTR truck driver it was nt uncommon to put gas in to prevent gelling. We'd put 1 gal in a 50 gal reefer trailer tank and it would be fine. The books at Cat used to say that you could run up to 30% gas mixed with diesel safely. However Ive worked as a mechanic at a company where the owners daughter filled up the company truck (dodge w/ a cummins) with gas. It ran,... barely a half mile to the shop pouring white smoke so thick youd thought she blew a head gasket, that and missing and sputtering. Pumped out the tank as much as I could and filled it with diesel changed the fuel filter and fought to start it witht what was still in the lines after I got it started it ran fine. Now Ive seen gas engines that had diesel in them (recently CONOCO bought a lot of repairs because of this) They accidently dropped a load of diesel into the gas tanks at a station people filled up with it and had to have their engines rebuilt. diesel killed the seals and lines which werent designed to take it. So moral of the story is you might be able to run alittle bit of either one mixed together but the concentration is everything. Too much will have bad results.

Hmm, thats interesting. I thought Diesel was a oil/lubricant, I didn't think it would do anything to a gas motor other than run terrible. I remember back when I was a kid. My dad put a gas motor in an old diesel truck and it still had diesel in the lines and a little in the tank. he had to drive around for about a mile with his foot to the floor to keep it running, after that it ran perfect.

I read somewhere (In a Ford publication) that we can run up to a 30% gas mix in the PSD's for cold weather running. Not recommended to run more than that. Sorry, can't remember where I read it.......

I wonder if trying to ram the thicker diesel oil thru the pretty small injectors of the gas engine is were they had problems with pressure spikes and seals. This is just a guess

im sure mine still had some gas in it,but i tried to get all out that i could, didnt want to take a chance ,had no problem all the way home and still no problem, except some small oil leaks, gues i will have to live with the leaks, seems like that is a problem with our trucks. Everyone have a good Christmas.

That's for sure, I'm always fixing leaks. I'm in the habit now of looking under my truck, as I approach it in a parking lot for example, of looking for leaks. lol is a good response but its maddening as hell.
