The ignition module is on the distributor. I'm not using the old one.
I got to timing because I was frustrated and I thought I had exhausted everything else. If it has spark fuel and air it SHOULD start so I decided it had to be a wiring problem or timing. I was also very It was a good thing that I replaced the chain anyway as it had about 3/4 inch deflection.
yes the distributor is just like that. I'm replacing the connector that slides into that because the wires are starting to get bad and I will probably replace the ignition module shown there as well just to be safe.
It didnt have one that I can remember but I will look through all my parts again. Whats it called exactly? I have the computer that was inside the cab all hooked up.
I think that's a EFI dizzy. Looks like my 88, 89, 91 ect. the old carb ones were a 3 wire with vac. advance. However I would think you would not have spark? you say you have the computer all hooked up as well. Something is missing here.
This is an example of the duraspark II ignition system. Did the old motor used this type of distro and you are trying to connect a TFI distro. Which harness did you install? I would say use the harness from the 302 with the TFI distro but you need the ignition module (ECU) that came with the 302 motor.
That is not the system that is on the 302. The old motor used this kind of system.
I'm using the wiring harness that was originally on it until it gets to the engine part where I am using the 302 wiring harness that came with that engine. Is it weird that I have a fuel injection control module and a carbureted engine?
I was told that the engine side of the wiring harness on the 302 should plug right into what was on there before. The 302 never had a box on the fender but the 300 did. I uploaded a video from my phone to youtube here YouTube - 302 wont start sorry about the quality. turn the volume way up.
WOW I hope santa brings you a good manual & schematics......lol
All of the plugs & components can be identified in the manual by matching different years and versions.
The red plug near the end of the video looks like a voltage regulator plug??????Sometimes they were mounted on the fender or right on the alt.
I need to watch the video again but other guys on this forum surely would know.
It looks like you have the EEC or Duraspark III or whatever it is called that also used a feedback carb and stuff. I would recommend going to the Duraspark II set up as shown above and call it a day - gets rid of the ECU. Search it on here, you will need the harness, which you might already have, the distributor, and the module/coil. It is less than $150 or less that $100 I forget, for the parts from the parts store.
