I have a 1995 Bronco 5.8 with a H9 rear end and I need to replace it; I have a 5.0 Bronco with an I9 rear end and was wondering if it would be wise to swap out these two with out issue. I've been to many local grave yards but I can't seem to locate a H9.
well the H9 is a 3:55 ratio rear with limited slip,3800lbs rating
I can't seem to find anything for the I9,I think and combination of two digits ending with 9 is 3:55 ratio, the I may just be a different weight rating.I'm sure someone will come along that knows more about this then I do about this.hope this is of some help to you.
It's likely a 19 and that's a 3800lb 3.55 open diff. why you removing the LS diff?
The current rear end is blown and I cant seem to locate a H9 anywhere localy; but what can I expect for a FREE truck! Needs a little body work and a rear end and its good to go. Set almost a year put a battery init and it fired right up! Doing full tune up; tranny & cooling system flush and once I get the rear end done it'll be on the road
you could always get the 19 coded 3:55 and put in until you have time to rebuild the trac-lok carrier from your old rear and install it into the truck then.

Yea thats what I was thinking of doing but didnt want to do it if it would cause other issues; like causing the transfer case to fall out on the highway!
no it will be fine, same ratio as what you have, won't cause any issues other then the rear will be a one wheel peel.
and thats not a huge deal, speciallly if only temporary,I just bought a ford motor sports king cobra trac-lok with carbon fiber clutches for my truck.it was around $400 canadian for the whole brand new carrier with warrenty,I was just over an hour doing the whole swap.
I would suggest going that route if you can.
and in case nobody has said it yet, welocme to FTE!!!

Reason: spelling
I'm going give it a go; I just opened the original H9 rear end to find the carrier is broken in two and the shims are melted on one side.
So I opened the 19 and it looks to be in decent shape; no excessive ware on and gears of splins that I can see so tomorrow night it will go in. Im off work tonight and the truck is here at the shop; tonight is just going to be me and by buddy Budweiser.
Learned a long time not to drink adn do repairs on my vehicles! lol
