Ignition switch issues.

I am having problems with my ignition switch. I turn the key to the on position and the truck starts and i let off the key and it goes to the run position, but sometimes it goes back a little further and shuts the engine off. Also if i turn the steering wheel left to right it cause the switch to disengage, i can feel the actual lock cylinder move when i turn the steering wheel. I tried replacing the lock cyclinder but that did not fix the problem. What else could it be?

thats more of a column issue.... mine is stiff to start u know hard to turn the cylinder and the moving in and out when turning the wheel could be the steering wheel dragging on the little steering lock

There is a sliding switch down the column a ways, your ignition switch moves a rod connected to this, I THINK (dont hold me to it) but its down low like by the brake pedal (help me out here if I am wrong) but attached to the column still, the rod moves up and down with rotation of the key switch and slides the switch to the desired positions maybe the steering lock is moving the key switch enough to move the sliding switch so it may just need to be adjusted. The following isnt my directions, was taken off of Allexperts on an '89.........................."Remove the bolts securing the steering column support bracket. Lower and support the steering column. Remove the nuts securing the ignition switch to the steering column and lift the switch up, disengage the actuator rod from the switch and remove the switch. When installing the ignition switch, both the lock cylinder and the ignition switch must be in the lock position. Place the lock cylinder in lock and remove the key. Place the ignition switch in the lock position and insert a 5/64-inch drill bit into the locking pin hole on the side of the switch. NOTE: new replacement switches will already be pinned in the lock position by a shipping pin. Install the switch by first engaging the actuator rod into the swittch and position the switch on the steering column and install the nuts finger tight. Next, move the switch up and down along the steering column and when you locate the mid-point of the rod lash, tighten the retaining nuts. After removing the lock pin, the remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. check the operation of the ignition switch in all positions. Hope that this helps. Good luck." Hope that helps you out!
