will a bad CPS throw a code?? My Ex will not seem to turn over. Its blowing smoke like crazy however it is about 30 degrees outside. Other than a battery what else might it be?
I would guess a problem with the glow plugs or gpcm. Also, how old is your oil? If it is too thinned out this will cause the injectors not to fire. Also, try to check your cranking voltage on the batteries. Should be greater than 10vdc.
More then likely it is the glow plug relay (GPR)has failed you. If you have a test light you can test it to see if the GPR is working. Let me see if I can find a pic and it will show you how to test the gpr that is the most common problem with these trucks. How long did you crank the engine?
The other thing you can try is plugging it in for a couple hours and if it starts easily I would almost bet it is your gpr. You can also try searching GPR test on the forum and it will have a huge amount of info. Let me see if I can find a pic that points it out and then figure out how to post it. I am sure Chris or someone will beat me to it though.
Thanks Clay. Your a life saver. I really gotta put all those pics in a test folder or something and learn how to post them. Once again Riff Raff to the rescue.
Its more than likely the GPCM, I tested the batteries and they are fine. I know I have a bad GPCM (I talked to Clay last week) I have not had the truck long and it was warm outside when I bought it. Well now that its cold, I am starting to have this problem. Clay, I will call you on Monday and order this part so I can get back on the road. Do you have any CPS's I want to keep one as a spare because I am sure I will need it one day. Thanks again to everyone for all the quick replies.
