cps help

This is my first time, but all you guys have helped me already. While reading through all the CPS discussion I think my problem has been diagnosed, I just want to be sure. Dont we all... I have a 96'F-250 PSD with 200k flawless miles until now. The other day while driving it skipped or missed. It has done it four or five other times since then. Twice while idling it has just shut off. It has never stalled while driving and the two times it has stalled while idling it has fired right back up. I guess my question is, If it is indeed a CPS will it go like this. It seems to me it would be more of a terminal failure rather than an intermittant one. There are no other symptoms present the truck runs perfect otherwise. Also does this CPS reveal a code and if so how do I retrieve it. Please help.

cps help

I agree that what you described sounds like an intermittant failure of a terminal conection but it is also classic symptoms of a CPS about to crap out on you. I believe a new CPS will solve your problem.
Your CPS will have a number and a suffix on it, if it is an OEM CPS: 1825899 (with a suffix). If your engine serial number is 375549 or before you need 1825899C99 and if your engine serial number is higher than 375549 you need 1825899C93. These are the latest upgraded parts that are less sensitive to camshaft end play and less sensitive to the air gap between the cam wheel and the end of the CPS. You can find the engine serial number on a label toward the front of the drivers side valve cover or if that label is gone it will be stamped on the block just behind where the rear oil cooler header bolts on (above the oil filter). Also, the International dealer will sell you the CPS for a lot less money than the Ford dealer.
