sorry, it is a 7.3 turbo diesel, and it is a cam positioning sensor, at least that is what the code reader said. I was driving it about 60 and it lost power for just a fraction of a sec and kicked back in, it happen again a few min later and then the check engine light came on.
It is located on the upper left side of the harmonic balancer. Unplug it and there is a 10mm bolt that holds it on. Remove the bolt and wiggle the sensor out of the hole. Replacment is reverse. They say to make sure you get the updated version with the gold plated terminals. Haven't replaced mine yet but i've read up on it quite a bit. Let us know if you find it alright!
My truck did the same thing today. Did you replace the cps yet? I didn't want to spend the money on the wrong part. If the cps fixes your problem it will fix mine. Thanks
yes it took care off the problem and it cost just under 100.00$ from internatinal. It did only take about 10 min when i found it. im going to buy another one and put it in my glove, it sure got my attention when it started going out. what i did notice when it started is that the tach went to 0 like you turned the key off, then right back up. thanks guys for the info
I'd do that if I have to but the international parts guys around here can be a bit funny at times. They could come back and start asking for model numbers and what ever else they can think of that doesn't have anything to do with what I want. I will lie to them and give them numbers from one of our 3400's. But a part number would be so much easier. But at least they are not as bad as the cummins guys in the area, they won't look up any part with out a engine number.
Here is a example of the international guys: One of them told me that a dana and a spicer rear end were the same thing. Mmmmm
Hey guys sorry to interrupt here. But should I put this sensor on at a certain mileage or wait until goes out. Id hate to have the truck die on the middle off an intersections somewhere. Do I have to remove any belts to do this job. What size are the bolts holding it. I am definitly going to have one as a spare as soon as possible.
