i replaced the iac and still having the same issue. the new iac didn't change a thing. i have come to the conclusion that one of the previous owners have messed with the throttle stop screw. there was marking paint on several threads into the throttle body. i have unscrewed it about 3 turns now and it is definitely idleing better. and now when i unhook the iac it will idle lower and rougher. is there a way to set the stop screw back to where it should be?

yes i have read that. the tps isn't the issue. the issue is one of the previous owners of the truck screwed the throttle stop screw in at some point in time. so when i cleaned the throttle body now there is room for air to get past the throttle blades with the throttle body closed. therefore the iac has no control.

This might help you get the throttle stop screw re-adjusted in range. Near the end is a procedure that appears to be what you are looking for:

My 96 4.9 has had idle problems (cause, leak at intake manifold where the runners bolt together). After reassembly, I also messed with the screw. First backed it off held open the plate inserted the .002 feeler gauge shut the plate and tightened the screw until it contacted with the linkage with a .001 feeler gauge. (Really only did this because i found the feeler gauge while looking for tools, messy garage.) But since my problem was the intake I dont know it it did anything or not. GOOD LUCK with yours.
