Hello everyone. I'm having a issue with my 02 Ford Excursion 7.3 Diesel. I tried to lock the front hubs today so I can put her in 4x4 and I was able to do it on the driver side but damaged the plastic thingie on the passenger side. I would like to replace the both front hubs with metal ones. Any suggestions?
Also for the time being if I need to put the truck in 4x4 with only the driver side locking and passenger side not locked is that bad for the truck?
Just to confirm to lock the hub on the driver side its to the front of the truck and passenger side is to the back. Correct?

Locking in only one hud won't hurt a thing but you won't have front wheel pulling unless both hubs are locked in. To lock hubs you trun them clockwise, drivers side turn to the rear, passenger side to the front.
Welcome to FTE.Tell us more about what model we are dealing with? Some have ESOF and some do not.
You can buy a new factory hub or a Warn.Depends on if you want to keep it factory.
damaged the plastic thingie on the passenger side.
Well that narrows it down. Do you mean the twist control thingie, or did the entire round black thingie in the center of the wheel torpedo? OR, more likely, did you squeeze the O-ring out while turning the ****. These hubs kinda get a bad rap, for light use they are fine. Even though they seem to be plastic, there is plenty of metal on the inside. Easy to remove and service, I've found the primary problem is the O-ring around the dial. I combat that deficiency by spraying silicone around the dial ~every couple 3 months.
Which model Warn Premium Hubs is for my 2002 Ford Excursion Diesel
CPUNeck
Entire round black thingie in the center
So just to confirm unitl I get the replacement hubs I can lock the driver side hub and leave the damaged passnger side hub unlock and still engage in 4x4 wihtout any harm to the the truck?

If both side are not locked, you will not have 4x4.
I wont have 4x4 but I will still have some form of traction in the front coming from the driver side. If I engage the 4x4 but only the driver side is locked and the passenger side is unlocked will it harm the truck. We will be getting snow soon and I might not be able to get the replacement parts in time. So if I'm stuck and need to put it in 4x4 even though the passenger side is unlocked and the driver side is will it harm the truck cause only one side is engaged?
Thats what happens when both side are locked anyway.
My point exactly! No harm done locking only one in. It just won't be very effective. Without the resistance from the other axle, it won't allow the other to pull and the opposite side will just turn inside the hub. If you had a locker in the front, it would still work. On an open differential, if you lose one axle "you are dead in the water".
One side locked and the other unlocked = no four wheel drive. You need both hubs locked in order to be in four wheel. You can still change the transfer case to 4x4 but the front wont be pulling, unless both hubs are locked.
I tired it last night. I can feel the driver side grabbing when I make a left turn and the 4x4 light is on. When I make a right turn don't feel nothing.

Well probably not the way you think, what you felt "grabbing" probably was the U-joint binding as it was rotating when you turned to the left.
The deal is, if BOTH front axles aren't locked, what happens is the front driveshaft turns and delivers torque to the front driveshaft, and the torque (like electricity) takes the path of LEAST resistance... In your case, that would be the passenger side axle shaft spinning at Mach Jesus. Personaly I would not drive in that configuration due to the load being placed on the spider gears in the front differential. (This is all based on you being "stuck" in snow or mud NEEDING the 4 wheel drive) Driving down the tarmac partially engaged will not harm the spider gears, but is not good for the driveline in general, as there is no differential between the front and rear axle.
Here's some more bad news, if you don't have a limited slip out back or locker, your 4 wheel drive Super Duty, has officially been demoted to a Uni-cycle (ONE wheel drive!)
