My truck in sig. has 89k and change on it and i'm **** on maintaince with on it.
The truck used to start within 2-sec of turning the key,it would kick right over.
now it takes 4 to 6 sec (seems much longer crankin) to start,
It runs good when runnin,
past couple of days wiffey noticed blueish exhaust smoke, and when you rev it abit it will puff out blueish exhaust,
There's no cel's but I don't have a scanner either, to check for codes.
And I do have the Extended diesel care from Ford for 200,000 miles and until 2013.
I going to schedule it in to my dealer to get it checked but would like to get ideas on what it could be .
Any help would be great,
Thanks,
Rich
dose it only smoke when you first start it, my truck dose that now that it is colder, and cranks slower and takes it longer to start, i only have 41k on my truck. i think that it may be the batterys are getting weak.
This could be a few things from normal. to needs an oil change to injector stiction or ficm voltage, to failing batteries.
Check the batteries and make sure the oil change has been done. as thoses 2 items are not covered under warranty.
Just did a oil change a few weeks ago mc/filter rotella 5-40 sync, and changed mc/fuel filters at the same time and ford changed out the FICM last fall sometime under warranty.
we are in the middle of a snow storm now but I will put a Fluke on the alternator today and on the batteries ,
ok checked the alternator today , truck was warming up at high idle and I was reading 14.4 v off the alternator and 14.2 v off both the bateries...
shut off the truck and at rest, both bateries read 12.9v ,
that sounds acceptable right ??

That is about the same voltages I get,new alt and good interstates.
These are interstates, group 65, 850cca ...what should they read after being load tested , also I have 1-treatment of hot-shots left gonna put it in tomorrow and will see if it makes a difference on stiction.hmmm i've been runnin 2-stroke oil in fuel for lubrication but since the crankin time got longer i stopped about a month ago,and only useing DKleen.I wonder if that contributed to longer crankin times, also lets see if HS's helps .This will be a interesting learning experience ...

will pull both batt. tomorrow and have them load tested, do they do this for free...??
Both batteries checked out good at auto zone today, and i dosed it today w/hotshots so i'll run it and see if it helps with the stiction on start up,
will keep you posted...

I have an 05' and it does the exact same thing. I checked everything out, went and got the new reflash and what do you know, when it gets 30-35 degrees it still blows smoke out for a few minutes until warm and then it quits. If it is above 35 doesn't smoke a bit. I think it is just exhaust fumes and moisture. Does your truck run great other than the smoke? Mine runs great other than the smoke. If you do find something out let us know. But it has stumped me and for real I am not going to worry about it. My cat and muffler are off as well. Is yours? I think this does contribute to the smoking when it colder becouse of less back pressure and it take longer for the exhaust to warm up. Let us know. Eric
