i am looking at a truck that needs the bed replaced. Its a 73 F150 shortbed. I would like to get some idea of what a bed would cost. Be it new or used. As long as its not rusted.
thanks.
The price of a bed is going to determine where you're at. I've seen beds that were rusted out junk going for $200.00, at the time I decided a flatbed was cheaper. Then I wound up buying a parts truck that was complete for 150.00 in Cal. I bought it just for the bed. You're just going to have to keep your eyes open.
I found a rust free shortbed w/ rust free tailgate at a truck wrecking yard in California. Took me 5 months to find a good one. Cost $400. not including shipping.
Prices for used parts tend to follow the same old adage as real estate...location, location, location! Some places seem to be blessed with an abundance of used parts in fairly good shape while in other places good used parts are scarce. I got lucky last week and bought a long bed for my 1972 Ranger for $150 that was immaculate. The trim on the bed was some of the nicest I have ever seen in a junkyard...too bad the bed came off a sport custom so I'll have to use my old trim. I have an uncle who lives in Florida who paid $400 for a bed for a 1970 Ranger a couple of months ago that was not in near as good condition, but rust free sheet metal is hard to find in that part of the country. The place I got the bed from had several 67-79 Ford trucks so if you live anywhere near the Middle Tennessee area let me know and I can see if he has a good bed to fit your truck.
