1997 expedition, pass. side front caliper keeps freezing up?
it's done it 4 times in the few year's my father owned it and now that it's mine, i'd like to know if nayone else has the same problem.
it doesn't completely freeze up, but it will randomly keep brake pressure until wears everything out. all the lines have been changed, along with the caliper/rotor every time...
What about the brake proportioning valve? Since the problem is always the same side. I would be shopping for a good mechanic. Someone who can fix the problem if not the first time at least the second time. Around here its not how fast you can go, it's how fast can you stop.

I have to agree with the above response and suggest a hard look at the ABS as well.
HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT CALIPER
I am having the same problem with my 97 expedition as well! i have replaced the rubber line and the caliper bleed the line(no Air)
as long as the vehicle is off and you pump the brakes the caliper releases but not completly still drags! If i start it and hit the brakes it takes all the strength i have to turn the rotor. i have looked and i have not found a proportioning valve so i take it that it is built into the abs pump?
I guess my question is can i bypass the abs to just the front brakes and set it up like the old style of brakes and install a proportioning valve! off of a older ford like a truck with no abs system?
How about flushing the old fluid out and replacing it with new clean, debris free fluid. Suck the old fluid out of the MS resevoir with a liquiVac and replace it with new clean fluid. Bleed each wheel(and ABS unit) until fluid runs clear(changes from dark color to lite). There has to be a restriction somewhere and trash in the lines is a good place to start. Even if it doesn't solve this problem it's a good idea to change the brake fluid as it does get contaminated with high mileage and years of use. You can even check the brake pressure at each wheel once the old fluid has been pumped out with a brake pressure gauge.
I'm having the same problem with front driver side (2004 w/177K) caliper. Initially had driver side caliper lock up so I replaced both front calipers and pads. Now I'm still having the same problem (not quite as severe) with the driver side caliper not fully releasing. I initially did not replace the rotor and still had occasional pulsating. When I went to replace the rotor, I could not retract the new caliper piston without opening the bleed nut. Other side of front brakes was no problem whatsoever.
I guess my options are the HCU or the ABS controller or bad replacement caliper. The ABS still works no problem with no codes. Hence, I'm thinking it could be the HCU. Difficult job or not? Probably replace all brake lines at the same time. No, I have not been fully bleeding out all brake fluid when I do my brakes.
