i found a newer low hour 300 in a junk yard for 400$. and i found a manifold with a 1 barrel carb for it. i am working on motor mounts and a bell housing for a c6 auto. any advise is solicited . this is going in a 3/4 ton 4wd 75 f250. i am looking foreward to putting it together. i posted earlier and thanks for the interest. twr
a farting horse will never tire and a farting man is the one to hire.
Hold on there Canada cousin, there aint no bell change for a C6, because it's a one piece tranny. Like the other feller told you, you will never save 400 plus dollars in gas, swapping the engine out. After running a 390, you are gonna think you are running on a three cylinder engine, and will wish you had it back.
If you need fuel milage look for a little Ranger to use as a daily driver. :-)

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
From personal experiance I can tell you that the best thing you can do for that 300/6 is to get rid of the one barrel carb and either get a Clifford manifold and put a two or four barrel carb on it or, get an adapter and put a two barrel carb on the stock manifold. A 300/6 with a 4 bbl carb and headers will run as strong as a small V8.
Make sure that Carb is for a 300. If it's for a 240 you will have some hard to find troubles with the Spark Plug's and Valves.
You'll get about 3mpg more with the Six. IF you dont pull a big trailer, you will like it just fine, but there is a definate power difference. Be patient while driving and you'll find it just a peach to own.
