stephen.osborne1 - I have the Daystar in my '04 Scab and would use it again but around here it's a pain in the hump to find a garage with a spring compressor able to compress those beefy F150 springs. I've seen videos on Youtube about using a floor jack under the lower control arm to compress the spring but that kinda frightens me. I'm leaning towards the Bilstein 5100 shocks which apparently can be adjusted to provide the necessary lift. Until you and I ever get our trucks we'll be planning and planning.......
Isn't that the truth... I have a buddy with a garage lift (hopefully long enough) and my wife works at Auto Zone, so I can use thier spring compressor, no problem. I would think the Bilsteins make the ride height a bit harder, whereas the leveling kit (like the daystar, etc) don't. What kind of shocks do the FX4's use now? They used to have the Rancho RSX's. From what I can tell, the new ones don't. Are the new shocks comparable? I hate replacing good stuff (like the Ranchos), but if the stock stuff is sub-par, I wouldn't feel so bad replacing them with Bilsteins, etc, before they are worn out.
you dont need a spring compressor to install a level kit. unless you get the kit that actually goes in between the spring and the housing. best thing is to get the one that goes between the housing and the top frame mount. just take the tire off, brakes off, sway bar end link, upper balljoint, and axle retainer nut. then loosen the bottom strut bolt and unbolt the topside and it should come out far enough to install the kit. i didnt have any problems doing mine.
