i am running 31 series exide's. i think they qualify as overkill....lol they require modifying the battery tray to get them under the hood, i feel the more power the better
I run the gold top from autozone, 5 year free replacement! after 5 years I pull them out and use them in tractors or ranch trucks. in 20 years I have had 2 batteries warrantied.
got me some optima red tops and LOVE THEM!!!!!! 1000cca if i remember correctly. can leave the stereo and headlights running most of the night while we pull an engine out of my F150 and then go fire the truck up perfectly fine and i have an amp and subs in the truck that used to drain my interstates FAST. and i like interstate batteries, but this amp didn't like interstates or NEVERSTARTS!!! LoL.
I wouldnt buy interstate I have never had good luck with them . The Exides were the best batteries that I have owned . I havent heard a lot of positive feedback on the optimas . What I keep seeing is that they dont last as long as they should . Seems like they dont last any longer than just a run of the mill battery .
i love my exide's. i have a respectable stero system in the truck and run mine alot with the truck off as you do. i've yet to have a problem with it starting and since changing to these monsters the truck cranks over the same speed in 10 degree weather as it does in teh summertime. the standard batteries i ran before cranked considerably slower in the winter and they were motorcraft 1000 cca's

yeah the optimas don't budge when it gets cold either. gotta love bada$$ batteries! i ran my stereo system and headlights and everything from the time we started pulling the engine out of my F150 til we finished and it started perfect. the interstate megatrons i had wouldn't run the stereo for 20 minutes! LOL!! and the neverstarts would barely start the truck much less run the stereo. hahaha.
What did you have to mod on the trays to make those exides fit? i will never get anything but optimas from now on, but just wondering.
i had bought a megatron for my charger, it lasted almost 8 years in that car sitting every winter untouched until spring. never had to put it on a charge, fired right up every spring.
were did you find the red tops in 1000cca! those yellows were the best i could find. im running two amps plus i have a winch im running all the time. it has a 575 cca on one side and a 800cca on the other and i think thats what killed them. they were in it when i bought them and never paid attention to them. i was shooting the breeze with the guy down at napa that wanted to check out hte new bank intercooler and he happened to notice it. glad i didnt replace the glow pllug contol monitor! (what i was there for)
well the exide 31 series are 5 or 6 inches longer then the standard battery and i think 2 or 3 inches taller. i would have to measure to be sure again, but they just physicly dont fit without cutting up the old tray.
