Question 2000 Expedition Wont Start

About a week ago, the truck (2000 Expedition XLT 5.4 4x4) would randomly not fire up on the first try, but then would the second time. The problem started to happen more often, then it got to a point where it would not start at all, but after just waiting a while it would start up just fine.

We thought maybe we just got some dirty fuel and the fuel filter was finally clogged up. It was over due for replacement. So we replaced that, and it fired up right away, but was running rough, idle jumping from 500 to 1500 and everywhere in-between. And then it cut off, and it has not fire up since.

It turns over really fast, it doesn't struggle, but does not even fire up at all.

There is no check engine light, we checked to see if there is power going to the injectors, there is, all electrical seems fine, all grounds are good.

We checked that switch in the back, cant think of the name now, the one that engages in an accident, it was not activated, we thought maybe it could be the Anti-Theft system. But from what i have read, the THEFT light should be flashing while trying to start up, and after, but it doesnt. The fuel pump seems to be working.

We checked all the fuses and relays.

We are out of ideas, it was random enough, that the day we decided to replace the fuel filter, i started it up, first try, and moved it up to the drive way...it hasnt moved since.

Please help

Also, as i was driving it after having a hard time starting it up, the Odometer went blank for a few minutes, then came back. No idea why, its never happened before, i dont know if its related at all or what.

If it started right up after changing the fuel filter then I'd say there's a connection. Have you connected an actual fuel pressure gauge and taken a reading?

Having the same problem with my 1999 5.4L. Have you diagnosed the problem yet?

IF no Fuel Pressure - check for signal to Fuel pump. That may lead you back to the fuel pump cutoff switch (which i have never replaced). I changed the Fuel Pump on mine at about 100,00 miles, You will be pleased to know that it is located in the Gas Tank.
