351 windsor timing

Hey guys, quick question. My buddy has a 83 F-150 with a 1987 (police cruiser) windsor in it. Being that it is not the original engine to the truck, the sticker on the core support is for a 300 I6. So we're not sure what degree it should be timed to. I'm guessing it would be somewhere near 8 degrees... am I close? Thanks for the help!

I pretty much ignore stock timing, it's set so that you can run very bad gas and for drivers who lug the engine. If he bumped it up to 12 degrees he'd get better power and mileage, although you do have to listen for pinging, if it starts back if off until the pinging stops.
