Should have one and if I remember correctly you push the go pedal down and then release before starting the truck to get the high idle switch working.

Check the "proper starting procedure" thread that was posted yesterday or the day before.

It is the round solonoid with a plunger bolted on the passenger side of your injector pump. I never mash the pedal until it cranks then tap the throttle and it should hold it at high idle.
With the keof you can move the throttle linkage by hand and see if your plunger comes out if it does it is working.

it will come out and stay out only with the key on. It wont activate until you turn the key on. Best is to start and when it is cranking or after it kicks over, tap the pedal. then it will set and hold the throttle, then when warm release to normal.

This switch controls the high idle and timing advance for cold starts.

When you are working on the alternator, glow plugs, return lines or thermostat, it is rather easy to pull the wire off the switch.

If the wire is on the switch, you should have power to the timing advance solenoid and high idle solenoid as long as the coolant temp is below 112 degrees.

The high idle solenoid is not strong enough to overpower the throttle return springs, so you have to push the throttle pedal to set the high idle after the key is on.
