Need some help which I could not find by searching. My father has a 2006 Lariat 4wd. It only has about 17,000 miles on it. He told me he went through the car wash last week and since then he has been having starting problems. He says that some times when he tries to start it there is nothing like the battery is 100% dead. Other times when he tries it it starts right up. He took it to a ford dealership who could not find anything wrong with it even when it did not start for them. Wondering if this is a common issue with the newer models. I know he had a new battery put in just a year and half ago after having issues with the electrical which fixed everything. I've had four 97-02 Expeditions and F-150 so Im not up to speed with these newer trucks.
Oh, also I should say he can jump start it when it does not start. So this to me sounds like the battery but he said they tested the battery and it tested good.
May want to check you fuse panel on passenger side for water leaks some people reported there was water coming in and coroded some wires in panel try a search on previous Threads
good luck.
Just because a battery tests "good" doesn't mean it really is either. I've heard more than one story about "good" batteries ultimately being the real problem.
If it still has the OE battery, I would begin to suspect it if all else fails.
The battery is only a year and a half old. It was replaced after the original battery went bad causing the truck to do all sorts of weird stuff. Hard to believe it is the battery due to it starting up just fine some times and then no power at all other times. To me that seems like some loose connection some where. I plan on visiting him on Wednesday so I will able to look at it myself then. I was mainly wondering if there is any wide spread problems with this sort of thing. Hard to believe he is having these types of problems with only 17,000 miles on it.
I say it is a widespread problem. My GF's parents bought and 06 F150, same thing. Would start sometimes, and other times would be completely dead. When I worked for the city back in 06, we bought a new 2006 F250, and that had the same problem. Went to start it, nothing just a dead battery clicking sound. Wait a few min, it would come to life. Both cases were bad batteries. I would bet it is the battery.
So do you think it is only these Motorcraft batteries? Do you thing changing to another high end brand of battery would keep it from continuing in the future? Or could it be something with the trucks electrical to causes these batteries to do that?
Motorcraft batteries, at least what they put in at the factory, seem to be of poor quality the last several years.
I put a Duralast Gold from Autozone into my '07 last year after the OE battery wouldn't sit for two weeks without being nearly dead, and I've been happy with it so far. The Duralast Gold in my Ranger will be 10 years old at the end of the month.
Anything made by Johnson Controls seems to be better quality, which at least some of the Motorcrafts used to be, but I know the OE battery in my 150 was crap.
