My grandfather has somewhere between a 1969-1972
ford F-350. It's two wheel drive and it has a 360
for a motor. I wanted to pull the four speed out
of it and put it in my 1979 ford F-100. My truck has a 300 straight six with a 3 on the tree. I wanted to know wether the four speed was a New Process or I was told it could be a Berge Warner, I don't know if I have the name right. I also wanted to know which one is better out of the two and can I use the bell housing from the 3 speed for the four speed. Please help if you can.
I have been told that the bolt pattern is the same between the 3 and 4 speed manual truck trannies. I have never verified this personally. But if so, the tranny should swap in without incident. As far as determining whether the 4 spd you have is NP435 or T-18--I have a tranny id section on my web site. Go to the Technical page off the main page. I hope this helps.[BR]
Having done this swap - 3 spd to 4 spd - it's a bolt in swap. The only thing I had to do was "adjust" the carrier bearing mount about an inch with a torch and a BFH.
