Unhappy OIL LEAK NEED HELP!

I have a 1998 expedition with a 4.6 4wd that i have just bought and it has a leak which as far as i can tell and see is coming from the remote oil filter thingy that is mounted on the side of the engine., my question is this something common and is it a big job to fix? Thanks for any info.

Easiest way to see is if you change your oil yourself. My Moms 98 was leaking from the drain plug and it turned out it was a bad gasket... Maybe the filter gasket wasn't lubed correctly?

Ok, I did the troubleshooting thing on Autozone's website, and they gave me three options. First is the valve gasket, but I really don't think that that's what the deal is. Then they said the oil pan gasket, and I'm kinda iffy about that. The final suggestion they had was the piston rings. I really don't think it's any of those. Especially since I just realized that those oil lines have a quick connect on them. Maybe that isn't making a good seal?

Since you said it’s coming from the oil filter mount, it sounds like it could just be a bad gasket on the filter itself. If it is a new filter and it leaking the next thing I would look at is the oil filter mount with the oil filter taken off, look to see if it is all intact and smooth all the way around. If that’s all fine then the leak is coming from somewhere above the oil filter and dripping on to it. It could be the valve cover gasket but when they leak they don't leak a lot of oil. The other thing it could be is an intake manifold gasket, the oil could be running down a small path somewhere and eventually running onto the oil filter or near it. If the leak is lower than the oil filter then the only thing I could think of that would leak is the oil pan gasket.
