Ford oil dipstick question.

I have a 1988 4wd F250 with a 460. I am rebuilding the engine. The oil dipstick threads into the oil pan. Does it use an oring or any kind of sealant on the tube or threads?? I hate to fix an oil leak with it full of fresh oil.

I finally got hold of my Ford guy. He said no orings, or sealant. The taper fit should seal fine. Hard to tell if it leaks I had an oil filter gasket blow out on start up. Argh...

Ya, should be just a tapered flare fitting, like a brake line.

Well not quite a tapered flare like a brake line. It was a tube with a ridge about an inch from the end. More like a hydraulic line. That was what had me puzzled.

No O-ring or sealant used on the oil dipstick tube.

Only the A/T dipstick tube uses an O-ring.
