D3ve or EFI Heads???

hello, im wanting to throw together a cheap 460 to drop in a fox body mustang just to toy around with. The motor ive got already has d3's on it, but i can get a set of EFI heads for free. Ive heard they flow good....I know id have to get the adapter from Price Motorsports if i use the efi heads.

so which ones flow better? also are the exhaust ports different? if i use the efi's will i need special headers?

im just gunna do the basics...new timing chain, oil pump, ect. and slide a summit brand mild cam in it, with a holly 4bbl and some headers. should be a cheap fun little ride.....thanks

The flow thing may well be true, however the EFI heads are physically different and will not work with the carb intake manifold, so unless you plan on going EFI, don't do it.

The price intake adaptor takes care of the intake side, the problem is gonna be finding headers. Headers are different, I think the ports are raised .250" or so. You would have to modify the flanges to make regular 460 headers work, probably not a huge amount of work. If you do go with the EFI heads the F3TEs are a little better than the E7TE heads. E7s are 88-92, the F3s are 93-97.

yeah ive read that the f3's are the way to go. i read that the efi lower intake flows about the same as an edelbrock performer intake, so for a mild build i think it would do good....just wanting to know if the d3's flow as good as the efi's or not? if so then ill just stick with them and wont need the adapter and header work ect...

IMO the amount of difference in flow is NOT worth the cost of adaptors etc. The D3 heads are going to be close enough as to not be noticable. Do some port work on the exhaust side mainly and your better off.

Go with the D3's. I have them on my 460, did do some work on them though. Put CJ valves in, 2.25" intake, 1.75" exh, raised intake runner (head & intake). Flow 300 cfm on intake, 200 on exhaust.
1 7/8 Headers, 850 cfm carm, 2500 stall conv, 4.11 gears, '78 Bronc runs low 14's @ 100mph.
