I have a 93 explorer. When the engine is cold I can hit the gas to the floor and everything is fine. As soon as it warms up to running temp and I give it a little gas or put a little load on the engine, like climb a small hill my truck starts pinging the valves pretty bad. The ping is a sound of valves banging bad. It is not low on oil and it has good oil presure. Could this be an air fuel mix problem like pre igniting. Please, can anyone help as this is my primary vehicle and I need it tip top. Thanks for reading.

Reason: Put in more info
Check to make sure the exhaust header bolts are tight...especially the ones toward the front of the engine. They do loosen up and causes exactly that problem.

I dont have headers it is stock manifold. Could the problem still occur? I have the 4.0 6cyl.

To me, there's a big difference in sound between valve clatter and pre-ignition/spark knock (which is usually what I think of when someone says "ping"). The conditions you describe are commonly associated with spark knock on this engine. Common causes are:
dirty MAF sensor, which leads to a slightly lean mixture (MAF can be cleaned carefully).
loose lower intake manifold. bolts seem to back out over time. Usually simply tightening the bolts up to spec is enough to cure.
carbon build-up in the cylinders. in these cases, a good de-carbonizing treatment can fix the issue.
It seems to be valve clatter to me. I mean this thing is really banging around.

Any doubt in your mind about it being valves? These conditions:

are very commonly associated with spark knock on these engines. If there's any doubt, I'd suggest looking at those few things that are common causes of spark knock. If you are certain it's valves, I'd probably start by checking the oil pressure, to make sure it isn't dropping off under those conditions.
