hey all looking for help with my 1998 e350 7.3 van (with ambulance package) I Purchased this van with 90000 miles 5 years ago it now has 225000 and the best van out of many purchased for my buissness. ok her the problem it seems every winter (new jersey) when it gets to freezing or below i get a great loss of power when I have a steady pedal at any speed , the way to get the power back is to let off the pedal or to just floor it. It sounds like theres an air leak or the turbo looses power but that cant be because once the temp hits above 32 it runs perfect . Its very annoying not knowing if the power is going to be there when pulling out in traffic. please
I have heard that sometimes the EBPV sometimes will flop closed. I would check that. does this happen when the engines cold or when its warmed up? when cold, the EBPV is supposed to help the enging warm up quicker. but its not supposed to close when the engines warmed up. so if it is check the linkage also the electrical connections.
odds are the oil temp is staying right around the magic 170 degree number. my truck even after driving it hard for a few miles will cool off the oil temps if i put around town and the ebp valve would reactivate. if it is annoying you then just unplug it. easy to get to if you ****** the dog house out of the way. 2 wire plug right at the base of the turbo inlet hose
THANKS GUYS ILL UNPLUG THE EBPV THATS GOT TO BE IT , ITS A 45 MILE COMUTE TO WORK AND IF ITS COLD ENOUGH IT WILL BE A CONSTANT UP AND DOWN ON THE PEDAL THE WHOLE WAY . ILL DISCONECT TOMORROW LET U KNOW IF WORKED THANKS
ok took doghouse off then had to take the red turbo inlet house off , the plug was there right at the base of turbo disconected it put everything back together, started it up , got heat in the normal time it takes (5-7 minutes at idle its 35 degrees 2day) took it 4 ride and no more hissing or loss of power , I hope problem solved thanks all. now if i can only get some work to use the van, lol. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!!
