You'll need guages to watch temps and bigger injectors to get big hp and tq gains. I just got a TS chip with PHP tunes on it and stage one DIY kit from jim at rosewood diesel. Check him out. Good prices and helpful. I've heard to stay away from edge. Intercooler would be a decent idea for you too.

Gauges for sure, I reccommend the PHP chip. I love mine and also got mine from Jim at Rosewood Diesel. He also does Injectors so if you want to do that down the road he's a good guy to go with. And yes, stay away from the Edge!

Upgrade the downpipe for sure with the exhaust and do a 6637 intake if you havn't already. Magnaflow makes a good 4" kit that is a bit cheaper than the others also.

Intake, exhaust, chip, gauges..... good place to start!

well once i get christmas shopping done with and im done paying for my college courses im deffinatly getting a 4" exhaust with a 3" to 4" dp and yea i have the 6637 just havent put it in during this 14 degree weather. and how difficult are guages to install? i had seen that group buy and it got me thinkin about them. like a boost, fuel, egt and idk what else there is to messure maybe tranny and oil temps or pressure. what are the key guages to get that you professionals get? and whats wrong with edge chips i like the fact that you could get 100 hp and read/delete codes

The edge is known to mess up your PCM (engine computer) and not come completely out of it interfering w/ the sensor readings and causing drivabilty problems. The end result is usually needing to either go to the dealership, to get the computer reflashed (reprogramed) or replaced. So get a good code reader for $100-200. and then a dood custom chip from TW or PHP and they can give you a true 140 hp boost (with the right supporting mods which we can tell you how to do and arent too expensive) and youll get lot more bang for your buck. As for what you really need gauge wise youll need a Pyro, Boost, and tranny temp (if youve got an auto) other wise anything else you want to add is just bonus but youll need the pyro to monitor your EGT and boost to make sure you know what your delivering. If you want more power a set of injectors will definately do that, its just amtter of how much power you want that will determine what you need. Stage 1's are plenty for most people but 2's and 3's are available. But the higher you go the more youll need. To properly drive the bigger injectors youll need a good custom chip to run them, not to mention depening on how big you go youll need bigger oil, headstuds, eventually a bigger turbo, girdle, electric fuel, IC, a moderately sized personal loan, a third morgage, fire rings, new uppipes, new clutch or modidied auto trans, and alot of time and beer to get your friends here to come help you put it all together. The sky and your budget are the limits. But well gladly lead into the land of power, black smoke and fun, not to mention bankruptcy if you get too carried away.

A pyrometer is a probe that sticks in you exhaust stream and measures how hot the exhaust is getting, aka EGT or exhaust gas temperature. If you exceed 1200 for too long your piston will satrt to melt and these engines can easily generate that kind of heat so its there to help you keep from melting your motor as you turn it up.

I IDM (injector drive module) fires your injectors at 110volts stock. Change out a simple little resistor and you can get 140volts to your injectors. They will stay open a little longer helping to atomize the fuel better. Works for me.

For gauges i'd go with Boost, EGT (pyrometer), and Tranny Temp if you have a auto. Those are the most important. If you want to get all serious about it you can do High Pressure Oil, Fuel Pressure, etc but you don't really need them.

The edge chips can give a lot of power but they can also mess up your ECM and they aren't too easy on transmissions either. "Dirty Tunes" is another way I've heard it put...

Just look at your bank account. Now just give Clay all your money... it'll be easier that way! haha!

You may lose weight because you can't buy food anymore but your truck will be nice!
