ok, so good news! i should be picking her up from the shop today. went and seen her yesterday and does she ever look GOOOOOOD... got it all put together and figured out the water pump had gone south (not the fault of the shop, but the ins. man...). so another couple days of delay, no big deal.
even better news for me is even WITH the extra $ in the ranch hand, i don't owe the shop one penny more than my deductibles. which is awesome. it does help that the 6.0 decals on the old hood were allotted at $50 (cost me 9). told the shop man i'd get my own new ones. plus what they gave for the old grille guard and the salvage company credited for them keeping the replacement bumper...
will get some pictures up of the new look once i get it home.
NOW i do have a new question on this deal... the ranch hand has 4" slots in the front for factory fog lights. is there anything out there on the market that i could get and mount back there that would fit those slots? or am i better off getting something else and mounting it externally from it? cos i've discovered i like extra lights...
i found myself the same bumper back in march, my plan is to figure out a way to use the fogs for backup lights. if i can't make them look decent i'll ebay them to someone that actually is dumb enough to think they put light anywhere usefull. my plan in front is to mount my set of Bosch DRIVING lights just inside the main uprights of the bumper as high as i can. up here i figure the headlights shine as far sideways as i'll ever need what i need more of is light way further down the road. by nature a foglight is not supposed to project a great distance. on a second look there is one difference between our bumpers, mine was slightly used but it was the winch model and came with a 12000 warn
thought of that, looked in the boss's heated shop this morn... there's antifreeze on the fan shroud and it's on the hose on the passenger side. it's kinda all over under there so i can't really tell WHERE it's coming from.
so, i went to town tonight for something totally unrelated. stopped by the shop to see if she was there and sure enough. plus the shop guy is still there at 7:30pm, comes out and asks if i want to take it home.
it got a new "aftermarket" radiator from 1-800-RADIATOR. i was a little bummed b/c they didn't have time to get to the emergency brake (cable issues, got the pedal zip tied up and i try to set it and it rolls). plus the tires needed to be rotated. but it's whatever, i'm just glad to have it back again.
except this time they over filled the degas bottle to the "max" line. is there an easy way to get the level back down again? can i just stick a hose in the degas bottle and siphon some out?
nope, the radiator that just got replaced was the "new to me" one from the salvage front end the shop used to put her back together. apparently there was something wrong with it and it was leaking... i didn't stick around to get any info cos it was later in the evening and COLD out...
