I'm making a video...

of Glow plug tests. with measurements, tip temp reading, durations and failure analysis for all these plugs we keep talking about.

Anyone want to donate a plug to get tested? PM me, I'm not doing anything wild, like pumping 36 volts into one or anything, Just 12v, take tip temp with an IR thermometer from start to finsh, stop watch to measure time to failure or up to 3 minutes, and measure amps and resistance cold and hot.

and I'm not stopping the recording so there is no doubt what I tested.

When I'm done, if I can't get it on youtube, I'll make DVD's and send it to whom ever wants it.

Also, I'll be taking physical dimensions from each and noting special features for reference. I have a digital caliper to measure it with, so I can measure before and after heating to see which ones swell.

I'll need these models to test: in the original packaging.

ACDelco

8G
12G
60G

Autolite:

1106
1107
1108 (this is the only autolite model for the 7.3L)
1109
1110
1112
1115

Bosch:

80024
80034
80036? whatever the model is for 7.3L's (bullet connector.)

Motorcraft/beru

ZD1-A
ZD9

If we all pitch in, I could get this video done over the holidays.

PM me if your interested in this project.

To touch on wreckinballs comments:

I not asking for 8 of anything, 1 of most and maybe 2 for each of the 6v variety.

Does the site have an appetite to help me complete this project? Send a crew down, and we can make a day of testing and documenting these for the forum members.

I got BEER, for those interested in making the hike to central IL.

send me your paypal address and I will throw a few bucks into it....I am did several tests on the 80034's before I replaced my berus with them... although they didnt get as hot as the zd-9's, they failed the same, and were able to take more voltage at a longer duration. I think it would be very beneficial to have a video & chart of how each plug responds. I know everyone swears by berus, but to be honest I was not totally impressed (but not having to pull the head to remove them was nice)

I need donations, gentlemen. Parts or cash ( prefer parts) to get this off the ground.

there are 15 models listed, and I'm adding 2 more, (wellmans, I'm buyin those) at 10 bucks a pop, gets a little pricey.

I've got a good spot in a heated garage to do these tests at my dad's, the wide screen camcorder, and tripod ready to record. I'm going to built a test rack, and go from one to the next until they are all tested.
