p132b solutions

I have a 2003 f350, with the 6.0 liter it is a 6 speed manual, with a banks bullet an aftermarket intake and exhaust. i bought it in connecticut and recently drove it to california en route to washington. on the way i would receive a p0401 egr flow insufficient code and a p132b code every 700 miles or so. I stopped in wichita, ks and took it to a ford dealer they poked and prodded it for six hours and charged me a $150 to tell me that they couldn't find anything but the light was probably the banks bullets fault. I haven't received the p0401 code for several hundred miles i am in ca now, but the p132b code pops up every 50 miles or so. i reset them using an actron obd ii reader. i get 16-18 mpg in town,(no trailer) same towing 2500 lbs uhaul on hwy. it doesn't run rough or misfire. it seems to run perfectly, but the p132b code keeps popping up, what can i do? my major concern is that this will mask any real problems i may have. or maybe im overlooking something. I have seen many threads pertaining to the 06e17 reflash and this code however i bought it with the the banks, aftermarket intake and exhaust, so i would have to buy all factory parts to replace not cheap is there a way to eliminate this code, or at least narrow down what is setting it off? any help would be much appreciated.

Both my and my dad's '03s get the p132b code and p0401 code occasionally, both with stock intake and exhaust. His has 65k and the egr/turbo have never been off or really had any problems, mine has gotten both EGR and Turbo cleaned and I think it needs it again.

i appreciate the replys, ford cleaned the egr in kansas, this truck is new to me it has 72k on it. when you say occasionally for the codes how many miles or what kind of timeframe, the P0401 code is very rare, i probably would not have seen a pattern this fast if i had not driven across the us. the p132b code is every 100 miles or less, but it does seem to occur less frequently on the highway. Also has anything negative actually been accompanied by this code.

As you probably have read ..........

P132B is a code related to the calibration from the recall 06E17. It means that there is a problem with the VGT system. P132B is a fault code that is set if the required boost levels are not achieved during a learn cycle or at specific speed fuel demand points. This code indicates that there are issues with the turbocharger, MAF sensor, MAP sensor/hose, IAT2 sensor, intake leaks, or exhaust leaks, etc.

Check for the intake/exhaust leaks
Pull the MAP sensor and make sure the hose is clear.
Pull and clean your MAF sensor and IAT2 sensor
May need to pull and clean the turbo.

It is always a good idea to keep the EGR valve clean. Have you had the truck programming updated since you got it?

a wee bit more info. p132b can also set from poor fuel pressure, failing ficm, failing injectors.

p0401 can set as a result of any of the above as well. keep in mind a poorly running engine can not scavange egr correclty
also a stuck vgt turbo can also cause a p0401 and p132b. the p0401 comes in to play when the vanes stick open and the egr is applied and no/limited change in IAT2 happens.

Funny you mention IAT2, today I noticed on my AE that IAT2 is off a bit. Cold since yesterday and all other temp sensors were 34-40F, IAT2 was reading -2 to 4. Where is the IAT2 sensor cheezit?

Does that sound like an issue, IAT2 being 35 degrees off? What problems could that cause?

could casue issues with egr flow detected. as that is the input to determin egr flow. egr flows and iat2 goes up. so that if it is not working it could be seen as not flowing egr correctly. I havent seen it happen yet but hey.

P132b has such a large diag chain its not even funny there are much easery codes to trace ill say that much. It almost never resets fast enugh to really check out. it may take a few hundred miles to reappear

Thanks for the info cheezit, much appreciated. I do get low EGR codes regularly, figured it was due to my original '03 valve or the p132b contributing to it. I'll keep an eye on it, I plan to clean my turbo again soon also.
