Finally got my IPR out. Made a crow foot wrench by cutting down a 1-3/8" wrench, shortening a 1/2" drive extension and welding it onto the wrench. Worked great, had it off in about 5 minutes. When I got the IPR out it had a lot of debris on the screen but, it was rusty not shiny so I'm thinking I got it dirty when I fished it out.
How do you bench test the IPR? I applied 12 volts to the striped wire side terminal and grounded the IPR body to negative but, it did not acuate. I checked the IPR with an ohms meter and got 6.0 across the terminals. I think the solid wire supplies 5 reference volts to the IPR because in the wiring diagram, the solid wire is fererenced as "V Power". Should I connect it to 12 volts and ground the body? I'm hesitant to, I don't want to short anything.
The valve operates on a 12v supply. Positive being fused to an ignition source and the ground being controlled by the PCM. To test or actuate the valve solenoid, simply apply 12v to both pins according to the correct polarity. There is no housing ground needed.
Okay, applied 12 volts to striped wire and ground to solid wire. Got a very low click a couple of times but could not see any movement or any of the ports opening. I would think there should be a pretty audible click and I should see the spring move and ports open. Also, the screen is pushed in somewhat.
