brake booster problem
Hello all- I don't know alot about brake boosters except that they are supposed to hold a static vaccuum. My booster is causing my engine (360) to idle and run terrible. If I disconnect it and cap the manifold hole- the engine runs great- but no power brakes. Is there a "check valve" that can cause something like this? boosters are pretty expensive- so I thought I would ask here first.

The check-valve is also the right-angle barbed fitting that connects the vacuum hose to the booster. It allows flow in one direction only, from the booster to the intake manifold. With it, the booster can hold a higher vacuum when the engine vacuum level drops and prevents blowing out the booster when the carburetor backfires. You can buy this check-valve/fitting in the “Help” section of your auto parts supplier but it sounds like your booster is leaking internally and needs replacing, sorry.
