I just installed a new Airtex fuel pump from Advance Auto and I can't stop a leak in the fittings going up to the carb. Beginning to wonder if it is in the pump body.
I reused the old fittings, then replaced them with the new that were included included and it still leaks.
I've used that yellow plumber's teflon tape with great success...NOT the white stuff.
It is best if you can get a seal without it, but the yellow tape does work.......has been many years and no leaks with it.
EDIT: I better explain a little more. I have found that sometimes a factory made flared fitting seals against the screw-in fitting, but not against the raised dimple inside the carb (or fuel pump in your case). I use the tape on the outside threads of the screw-in fitting.
John if I read that right ? Sounds to me like since both your old fittings and the new ones both leaked.. Sound like some bad machining in the port of the new fuel pump...
Oh-oh Russ....we are both named John....which one are you "talkikng" to?
In my case, it wasn't the pump, it was leaks at the carb. Due to using a fuel log form Summit that had flares formed in a press.....with sort of a parting line, I think.

One would think that since I have John in my post, and that I made referencer to both the old & new fittings that he replied to my original post, he was replying to me, but I could be wrong.
