I'm going to look again next week for Goodyear tires for my '98 Expy. I want a good looking tire, but I don't need a true off-road tire. They showed me the "Futura" tire, but I don't really like the "look" of the tire, doesn't look like a real truck tire to me. With all this in mind, which one of the Goodyear tires would be good for me? I'm not rich, but I want a good looking tire at a decent price. I should mention that I am using stock rims and want a stock-type of tire, nothing fancy.
If you’re adamant about buying Goodyear tires, I’d go with the Wrangler RTS. I’m not too crazy about Goodyear’s in general, but I’ve had these tires in the past and they were actually fairly decent.
I've got the Wrangler ATS 265/75/R17 I love the tires... Not to aggressive BUT better than the RTS tires.... Although I wish I'd of got the next bigger size, these just aren't big enough.... Don't let the dealer tell you other wise....

Though it doesn't take much to improve on the RTS, the Goodyear AT/S is a big improvemnt indeed.
I also would recommend you check out Bridgestone Dueler AT and the BF Goodrich LongTrail TA as well, great tires both.
BTW, where were you that you saw 'Futura' tires, Pep boy's? They are a good source for some things but tire aren't one of them (unless it's tires for a beater that is)

The "Futura" tires were on the rack at Goodyear, the sales dude was pushing them pretty heavy. I just don't like the look of them, they look like an oversize car tire to me BTW, they are made by Goodyear he said??
The problem is I live in a small, upstate NY town with few tire shop options. Sure, I could buy tires cheaper over the internet, etc... but the local shops don't give good service if you don't buy from them, ex: you are dead last on the work order list for rotations, etc...
I went to Goodyear this AM to have the tires rotated and balanced, the sales dude told me that I have until the snow flies to get replacements on my Expy or I'll be ice skating...
The tread bars are getting up there.
He told me the RTS tires were on sale until the end of the week. They listed for about $198 regular price, they are on sale until Friday for $119, that's quite a savings, I figured about $300 for four, nothing to sneeze at! :P
I put them in the shed, I'll wait until November and have them mounted, etc...
Momma aint to happy with me now, but I told her the money saved was sort of worth it.
Goodyear all the way! I'm not big on the Wranglers but have had a very good past with them. My Explorer got over 4 years time with the original set before I traded it. My 99' Expi is exactly three years old with approx 43,000 on it and still have plenty to go.
I have always been pro Firestone reguardless of the problems that they have had in the past, but have found that the Goodyears that have had come through with my vehicles on the line have performed with high standings. Jake.
I was at Western Auto the other day, the salesman told me that you need to go with the same size tire that was recomended on the door plate, because if ya go bigger, the ABS lite will stay on,???
I said whatttttt,
Has anyone heard of this, I think it's BS,,, I have heard of people putting on bigger tires, but never this,
I believe the tire Tim is talking about is the Goodyear "Fortera", it appears to be their latest SUV tire, similar in concept to the Michelin "Cross Terrain SUV". The Goodyear and Tire Rack web site has info available. I currently have the original Wrangler RT/S's on my '98 EB with a little over 50k miles. I can't wait until they wear out so I can justify replacing them, aside from wear they are the worse tires I've ever owned. Wet handling is terrible, and the sqeeling at 1/2 mph while turning in parking lots is rediculous. If I keep the truck long enough to replace the tires (waiting for the 3V '03 Expy) I 've been thinking about the Michelin Cross Terrains. Does anybody have any experience (good or bad) with them? Also, how long has everone's original RT/S's lasted?
I put Goodrich Long Trails on a year ago. Much better than stock. Smooth, quiet, good traction in rain and snow. Will buy them again next time I change.

Mark, the reason for this is 'legal liablity' pure and simple. Many tire dealers are afraid to 'assume' the liability to replace tires on any vehical with new ones that don't carry the same size, load rating and speed rating. Keep shopping, learn all you can about 'reading tire sidewalls' and visit sites such as tirerack.

This is my 1st time on here. Anyways I have a 99 Expy and have been running PRO COMP 33/12.50R17 A/T. I have about 25 k on them now and there is no sign of wear. Right now 4wheelparts.com is having a sale on them.....buy 3 and get the 4th free. I just bought 4 more for my 94 F-150 4X4. Awesome tires.
Let me tell you about my Goodyear Wrangler RTS's. After only 12,000 miles two of them that came of the front were out of round so bad I had to have them trued. Even after trueing the wheels needed over 4 ounces of weights to balance them as good as possible. I complained to the company that sold them to me but they would not do anything about it. I guess I'll have to write the BBB. My advice is get the Michelin Cross Terrains. They're designed specifically for a comfortable highway ride in a SUV, not off-road use. They're a good looking tire too. They'll cost more than the Goodyear but the next set I buy will be the Michelin Cross Terrains. It will be worth the extra money to get these Goodyears off!!
