Unhappy Heater on high only

Hi guys, I've been struggling with this issue for a while, only have high fan for the front heat, rear heat works fine. I have a new resister block in it, tried the one out of my superduty which I know is good, and replaced the switch. Found no melted wires that I could see but can't get the fans to work on low and medium settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

well, if you changed the resistor and switch, the only thing left is the blower motor. Good luck

If the blower motor works on high how could it be the motor?

My thoughts exactly, I've been looking to see if there is a fuse for the low and medium settings, nothing noted in my owners manual, anybody have a wiring diagram for this beast by chance.

Not having a 1999 in front of me ... can you pull the plug and put a meter on it to see if the resistor block is actually working?

Reason for asking is I think on yours there are three wires on the plug. One wire for neg, one for full positive, and the other the variable voltage.

Just had to diagnose a blower issue on my 2000 E150 two days ago. The only part of the system that controls fan speed is the switch or the wiring to the switch. Pull the switch back out and do a simple continuity test on the terminals. Remember these switches have no "off" position. On "low" speed no continuity between any of the four terminals, on "medium low" speed should be continuity between terminal 2 and 3, "medium high" speed between 2 and 4, "high" between 2 and 1.

Now with that said the terminlas on my switch are not numbered, since yours has high speed you can try to figure out the other settings based on that information. Also i took my switch apart and based on how this simple switch is constructed i have no idea how one could fail. Perhaps the contact points could use a cleaning.

If the switch tests out ok, then you'll have to check the wires and wire connection.

Hope this helps

Ok, I don't know if anything will happen today with the winter storm but as soon as I can I'll pull the switch out and check everything out.
Thanks

Well after a year I finally got myself talked into fixing the high fan only. Turns out after tearing the controls out, checking the switch, wires, that the wires going into the resister block had a bad connection. Cleaned them off with some brake clean (all I had at the moment) and ran them in and out of a spare resistor block I had a bunch of times and every speed works now. The wife is happy anyways, me, well I guess it was better than watching TV.

Glad you've got your mulit-speeds working again---that can be a hassle only on high.

Cleaning terminals can also be done VERY CAREFULLY with small dabs of muratic acid dabbed on them with a Q-Tip or something similar. You'll be surprised how much corrosion that stuff strips away. Afterwards clean with alcohol to remove any left over on the plastic housing etc then apply a nice thin coating of dielectric grease.

Happy Heating Season!
