Every so often when I go to start my truck in colder weather, it starts up fine but immediately dies. (RPMs go up to 1000-1200 and then drop back to zero immediately) Up until now it has started up fine the 2nd time but today I had to restart it 5 times before it stayed running. I ran the codes and the only thing that came up was P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak.)
Could that be whats causing this or is it possibly a bad IAC?
My vote is for the IAC. Then find & fix the Evap leak.
How many miles would that code stay in the computer? When I bought the truck (less than 1500 miles ago) the gas cap was bad and would not seal properly so I replaced it. Just wondering since I didn't clear the code after replacing the gas cap would it still stay in the computer until manually cleared or would it clear itself if the gas cap was indeed the problem?
+1 on IAC you could get a new gasket and try to clean it. I have never figured out if these codes clear themselves. I always thought they needed to be cleared manually but I really don't know. Hopefully someone who knows will post
Yea I'm gonna have to get a new gasket and try to take it apart and clean it this weekend, truck did the same thing today but took like 10 times to get it started so frustrating
