well the little tag says 3.08 and the door sticker says 18= 3.08.... but the only problem is that the rpms on the calculator dont match up to what i am actually turning. my truck is an 88 model.... so i guess ill get a bottle of gear oil and some blue glue or somthing and pull the cover off and see whats stamped on the ring gear....but it kinda looks like the cover has been off before because it has RTV sylicon on it. did they do that from the factory?
i just remembered that my dad has a rear end he took out of a 96 explorer that he junked... so im going to go down there tomorrow to see what the gear is. lol that will save me a couple hundred dollars if its 3.73... be even better if its a limited slip differential..... then the only thing i would have to buy would be bearings for the pinion and diff. advance has them for like $130
Well there are not very many of them. In my opinon, its a shame to see things like that happen to limited production vehicles. I just think they could have built the same truck with a regular F150 and built a comparable drivetrain for it and had the same thing.
There were only 11,563 total 1st gen Lightnings made from 93-95. So I think that makes it rare.
