First off, hello and thanks for having me. I have a 2004 F250 and the ignition chime will not cut off. It always thinks there is a key in the cylinder. I have disconnected the black/pink wire from the cylinder, pulled the cylinder out, disconnected the harness under the column, and even traced it back to the fuse block and disconnected it there. I cannot for the life of me get this thing to quit. It will unlock the driver's door when I lock it. You can see why this could be a problem given I have the memory of a goldfish.
It could be a GEM or VSM issue. My VSM isn't programmed and it has the key in bell only when the door is close and the key is in the ignition. My alarm reads the lock cylinder correctly though.
Any other issues? Door ajar light, funky power door locks, strange wiper activations?
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the GEM and VSM?
Two computers. GEM stands for General Electronics Module, IIRC, and VSM stands for Vehicle Security Module. In addition to those, a third big computer is the PCM, Powertrain Control Module.
Correct on the VSM. The door ajar sensor feeds into it, which I think the key chime should only ding when the key is in and the door is open. Which is why I am thinking VSM.
Ya my chime started dingin all the time too just recently and I traced the dinger to the instrument panel top, come to find it's part of the circuit board can't be ripped out.Does anyone know where the vsm is located and how to diagnose?
This chime is driving me mad! Please Help!

The VSM is behind the radio against the firewall with three connectors in the bottom. One grey, one blue, and one green. (At least on 04 models) My issue is in the GEM or a short in a wire I can't trace down. I unhooked the VSM and it still did it.
Well, still no answer. I took the GEM out and cleaned it in case there was something crossing out a circuit and looked it over real good. Oh, I have another new irritation that strarted a week ago. Now my low range light is on all the time. This is getting irritating. If I vould find another GEM or VSM I would swap them out and see if there is any difference.
