Key FOB Questions
First off, I want to thank this board for saving me from getting ripped off by the dealer for $90 key. The programming was so simple that I wanted to go back in and laugh at the guy who cut the key. Now for the other question. I have a 1998 EB Expy. I would like to purchase a key FOB (which didn't come with the truck when I bought it new). I would like to know how do I tell if the truck is equipped with this option, and if so, how do I program the key fob that I plan to purchase to work with my truck??

Before you purchase a new key fob, you might want to check e-bay. I bought a replacement key fob there for about $10 for my 2001 Pontiac Montana (which I sold for my new '03 EB). Still was stuck with a $30 dealer programing--couldn't find any info on DIY.

Mine is a '99 EB Expy, so the instructions might vary slightly:
1 -- have ALL fobs on hand, including those which might already be programmed correctly. The programming will "erase" your old ones.
2 -- Unlock the doors. Put the key in the ignition, and turn from "Off" to "ACC" eight times in under 10 seconds. The doors will lock. Leave key in the ACC position
3 -- Program the fobs by pressing any key on the fob. Do this for each fob. The doors locks will lock/unlock
4 -- Turn the key to Off. Locks will lock/unlock, and you are out of programming mode.
5 -- Test all remotes.
6 -- With the money you have saved, take your spouse out to supper.

It's the same as the F150. Make sure you get the right one for your model year. For the '99 it's F

I got mine on eBay, and paid about $10, although some listed today are at $17. Just be patient, and you can get the best deal!

Thanks for this info...exactly what I was looking for.
Just wondering if both my fobs have forgotten their programming or they went bad. I'll try this and if they don't work, I'll get one off e-bay.
Probably didn't help that my wife let the baby chew on the only one that was working.

THANKS a lot to this board for this info. Origionally my truck came with one fob and set of keys. I got two new fobs on E-Bay for just $20. Just a day later the dealer found an extra set of keys to my truck and mailed them to me. Now I have two keys and four fobs. Regardless, I was able to program them all with the info provided here, and buy them cheap! Thanks a lot.

Works like a Charm
This works like a charm for my 2003 Expedition.
Turn the key to On 8 times quickly. When the doors lock, you are ready
to program. Hit all the deisred key fobs. Turn key to off. Test.
My wife's 2009, works enough differently that we are checking with the
dealer. Will post that procedure when we figure it out.
